Fellow Duct Tape Marketing coach, Adrianne Machina, posts an intriguing article about the use of images on your website (or even in printed materials for that matter). Are your images communicating what you think?
I encourage you to read all the way to the end and then post a comment as part of the “quiz” – what do YOU think the picture that is mentioned on her blog is advertising? I think it’ll be fun to watch what people say. Please go to her site and participate.
To whet your appetite, I’ll copy her “quiz” idea and ask you to submit your comments HERE on my blog first:
What advertiser would use this image in their marketing materials? What are they trying to say? (*the image on her blog is different than this one so comment on BOTH my blog and hers, too!)
* I expect some feedback on this one. Have fun, too! (Just keep it clean or I will delete your comment in my moderating controls!) By the way, if you don’t see your comment posted immediately, it’s because I like to have complete control over comments, so I have to approve your comment. Don’t worry – I’ll only delete SPAM and anything offensive. Other than that, this is interactive, so let’s have some fun!
AND WHEN YOU ARE FINISHED POSTING A COMMENT HERE !
This image makes me lament the loss of HomeGrocer.com, which was a FANTASTIC service, until it got bought out by WebVan, and subsequently an even worse service.
Now I’m back to “hubby shopping” which means unwanted substitutions and frequent calls home to ask, “What was that you wanted again? Wheat or White? Prego or Ragu?” (But I count myself lucky – I’ll gladly trade an hour of my time for an occasional “wrong” brand – and MAYBE I’ll even discover something new I like better!)

Adrianne,
Good to hear your comment this morning! I hope you don’t mind me “stealing the idea” from you – I do hope people will go to your blog and share in the fun as well.
I enjoy alot of the grocery shopping in our household although I’m just not a list person. Drives me crazy – so I just walk every aisle. I’m sure the merchants love me because I inevitably walk out with more than I had planned – but I get things that I really did need that I would have never thought about putting on a list!

Randy,
Great quiz yourself (I just got through commenting on Adrianne’s site)… here’s what comes to mind:
1) Wonder why grocery stores don’t sell pre-made “lists” that you can follow and add to it to personalize. Seems like everytime my wife or I go to the store we know we are going after the same things (milk, bread, yogurt drinks, toiletries). I’ve commented to my wife that I should create our own pre-made list but then she gives me that look that says I’m overthinking things!! 🙂
2) I love to shop with a list (guess Twins don’t have to be alike on everything)! It gives me such a sense of accomplishment to know everything is checked off.
3) Maybe this image is promoting a new concierge service geared to helping men helps their wives do grocery shopping. Not to be sterotyping but I think most of the women do the shopping but maybe this is a “mothers day” promotion geared towards taking care of the ladies!!
This is fun… keep the quizes coming!!
